Laminate Floor – 13 Things to Do and 7 Things Not to Do

Things To Do: (when cleaning laminate floors)

1. Dust mop your floor.

2. Clean with a damp cloth when needed.

3. Keep your floor dry.

4. Use nail polish remover for stubborn stains.

5. Read the Cleaning Guide.

6. Install above or below grade, and over almost any other flooring surface.

7. Make sure your subfloor is dry and smooth.

8. Use underlayment underneath before installing your laminated flooring.

9. If you are installing the flooring over radiant heat flooring, read instructions for both first.

10. Inspect each flooring panel carefully for defects or damage before installing it.

11. Run the planks parallel to light coming in from your windows. The starting wall should be straight as possible.

12. Leave an expansion 10mm gap around the interior perimeter and also around other obstacles.

13. Make sure the grooves are clean.

Things Not To Do:

1. Never ever use a good deal of water on the laminate floor.

2. Don’t even think about using strong detergents or abrasive cleaners.

3. Don’t ever use steel wool or any type of scouring pads. They can scratch your floor.

4, Don’t wax or polish your laminate floor.

5. Never use any type of chemicals that may damage the surface.

6. If you don’t get your first row straight, then do not continue. Starting with a straight foundation is the most important part.

7. Avoid installing a laminate floor in any area that would require wet-mopping such as in a bathroom, a washroom, a sauna, an enclosed porch or veranda, etc.
