Romantic Ideas For Valentine's Day – 4 Things to Make Her Say She Loves You

In early days the practice of giving love notes and poetic expressions of romantic expression were popular. Today, both homemade and store bought cards are decorated with symbols of love, such as hearts and cupids with bows and arrows. Cards may also be accompanied by a gift. Today’s customary gifts include flowers, jewelry and a wide variety of candies.

According to the ever popular Wikipedia, the sending of valentines may have become commercialized in nineteenth century Great Britain and then made its way to the USA. There it was copied by Esther Howland who began one of the earliest successful valentine businesses in her Worcester, Massachusetts home. She hand-made valentines which was the beginning of what is commercially mass produced today that are available in grocery stores, pharmacy, department stores and dollar stores. It may also be credited with the commercialization of commemorating other celebrations with cards with other holidays.

Here are some of my romantic ideas:

1. I remember the first Valentine’s Day after we were married. My husband took me to the restaurant of our first date night and re-inacted our first night together. Earlier in the day I received beautiful red roses and a heart-shaped box of chocolates.

2. Our 5th year on Valentine’s day was the best ever! Since our 3rd child was born a month earlier, I had 2 children in diapers. It was a very stressful time. My husband took the day off from work and stayed home with the children. He gave me a day to myself at a local spa. He realized I needed some time for myself and it was great. Dinner was on the table when I got home and chocolates were for dessert!

3. Every year was special. One in particular is when he rented a limo and surprised me with a party with my friends, family and children.

4. Another year he gave me a beautiful ring with a birthstone of each of our children, along with those box of chocolates of course!
